Free block editor plugin

Advanced Editor Tools, formerly known as TinyMCE Advanced, is a free block editor plugin that adds new paragraph blocks in a WordPress post, much like Visual Composer Website Builder, Themify Builder, and Elementor. It’s useful for when you’re not used to the new block editor format and want to revert to the classic mode. You can insert the new section anyway, working as you did before.

If you prefer, you can set the new classic mode as the default block so that you don’t need to insert it every time. You can also convert entire posts from one format to the other, saving you time from adjusting each section. You’ll also have several new options to try, such as lists in classic view.

Work in classic mode

WordPress has changed from its previous visual editor to a new block editor. For some web content creators, the new format doesn’t work well, or they’re used to the classic version.

When you enable Advanced Editor Tools in the WP dashboard, you’ll have access to classic paragraph blocks and enjoy the features it had before. If you don’t see the plugin appear or working, you may need to check your WordPress or server security settings.

Convert posts and pages

If you’ve already used the new block editor in some of your posts, you can use Advanced Editor Tools to quickly convert them to classic. There’s also an option to create tables in this format, which improves the previous functionality. It also works well with the TinyMCE Editor if you have that plugin installed.

Set standards and defaults

Instead of changing the block editor format every time you start a new post, you can set the classic mode as the default setting. You can also load other default formats, such as lists and fonts. If you need to find something quickly, there’s a search and replace tool.

Go back to the old ways

Advanced Editor Tools is excellent for converting posts back to the classic mode if you enjoyed its features. It joins the block editor functions in the side panel, where you can find the previous standard settings. If you want to use the new block editor again, you can convert it back.

PROS

  • Use the classic block editor
  • Convert between various formats
  • Set the classic mode as default
  • Use tables and lists

CONS

  • WordPress security settings may not load plugin properly
